How to Brighten Your Bathroom

Everyone has a vision of how our dream bathroom should look. There is light bouncing off walls, lots of floor space, and plenty of light coming in through large windows. This is often not the case. Many bathrooms in the UK have smaller, more minimalistic designs than others. What should you do if your bathroom isn't like the pictures you see on social media? Your bathroom may not look as bright and beautiful as it did earlier in the day. These are our top tips for bathrooms with little or no natural lighting.

Colours choices

You don't have to feel restricted if you have a dark or windowless bathroom. It is known that lighter colours can create the illusion of more sunlight and enhance a spa-like atmosphere. You may find it difficult to choose dark colours in smaller bathrooms. These colours can be thought to work against you in your desire to add more light to the space. This is often not true. Accents in darker colours can be used to balance the space. This can be incorporated into your bathroom design with dark furniture pieces.

You can also paint the bathroom ceiling in coherence with the rest of your room, which will give the illusion of a larger bathroom.

Reflective surfaces

Illuminated Mirror with Demister Pad and Touch Switch

Mirrors are a simple, yet effective way to increase the sense of space in your bathroom. A large, flat mirror or a frameless, mirror can be placed over the sink. Gloss countertop units will add another layer that allows light to bounce around, brightening the space.

Bathroom accessories with a silver, gold, or chrome finish are a great way to add a reflective surface to small bathrooms. To increase light bouncing off of your bathroom, make sure you have as many reflective surfaces as you can.

Lighting

Although this tip may seem obvious, lighting your bathroom is not always an easy task. There are many lighting options that you have to choose from for your bathroom. This can make it difficult to decide what kind of lighting is best. Ceiling lights and recessed lighting overhead are recommended. Task lighting is also recommended near the vanity area or where you will be getting ready. You can hang sconces or hanging light fixtures above the mirror. To brighten your bathroom, there are four types of lighting.

Task Lighting

Task lighting is used to lighten work areas such as the area where you would apply makeup or shave. For shadowless illumination, we recommend adding light sources to either side of the mirror.

Ambient Lighting

Ambient lighting can also provide warmth in your bathroom. Ambient lighting can be achieved by installing ambient lighting near the bathroom cabinets or shower area. This type of light reduces shadows that can be cast on walls, which can make the space appear darker.

Accent Lighting

To make a bathroom feel larger and brighter, accent lighting is essential. Accent lighting can either be used to illuminate a display or placed in a display cabinet.

Decorative Lighting

Finally, decorative lighting is a must. Decorative lighting can not only add light to the space but also make the room stand out as an architectural feature. There are many aspects to lighting that can be used to provide adequate light in a bathroom. Take some time to create a plan that will allow you to achieve the right brightness in your bathroom.

You can incorporate lighting into your bathroom in many ways, even if there is no natural light. Think carefully about the bathroom's colour scheme, lighting plan, as well as the use of reflective surfaces. These elements will make your bathroom feel larger and brighter.
